Our directors, Brother Bell and Brother Aspinall, told us to go get lost and explore around Christchurch, so we did. Thank goodness for the GPS to help us find our way back. We came to the Institute to make a few phone calls because we won't have internet at our flat until next Wednesday. While there, the piano teacher came and taught eight students. She told me that these students will be my responsibility starting in two weeks. Yikes! I sat in on a couple of lessons and felt a little overwhelmed. Some of the students are better than me. Oh well, I am good at encouraging. One boy, Daniel, started lessons in January and is already playing hymns. He puts his mission papers in in a couple of weeks.
First, we drove to Lyttleton (first two pictures) where the ships come in and load huge logs and the countryside goes straight up. It reminded us of Catalina Island. The Fire Department has temporary housing with two sea containers and a cover because of the earthquake damage. Then we drove to the town of Little River and over to Barry's Bay. Both were beautiful drives. In the fifth picture notice the patch of green trees on the hillside being grown for the lumber. We saw those everywhere. The roads are very narrow but the country is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
It's great to see pictures. It would stress me out to drive on the other side of the road. Mom, you are so cute, yes you are good at encouraging!
